Every year in June, nearly 1,000 high school students headed toward their senior year, converge on Bowling Green State University for the Buckeye Boys State program. The American Legion has hosted this event since 1936; providing hands-on activities and experience for youth in a government setting. This is the largest program of its kind in the nation.
State leaders from the governor to attorney general will be part of the Buckeye Boys State program, along with the highway patrol, and local government leaders. Their mission is ‘to provide an educational and leadership program that exposes young men to the rights and privileges, the duties and responsibilities, and the love for God and country, necessary to being self-governing citizens.’
